The ezNetworkEngine project was started back in 1996. It's been rewritten a couple times. The idea behind the ezNetworkEngine was to make programming of network capability into any program easy, quick and cheap. At the time the ezNetworkEngine was started, the only network engine available was RTime. RTime was bought out by Sony in 2000. DirectPlay (DirectX) is available now. Linux has xinetd which I've heard is quite simple to work with. Currently, the ezNetworkEngine is available on windows in .dll libraries. It has also been ported to linux, but I still have to compile it into libraries.
